  • A third Tenchi Muyo! Movie will be coming soon! The new movie, called Tenchi Muyo! In Love 2: Haruka Naru Omoi plans to conclde the chapter to Tenchi Universe. In this movie, as in the first, Tenchi disappears months later reapears as an adult living with a woman named Haruna. Directed by Hiroshi Negishi, this movie will come out in May.

  • A new Pokemon movie is to be released in the summer of '99 in Japan. Licensing is still being negotiated in the US. The movie will be called Maboroshi No Pokemon "X" Bakutan. (AKA: The Explosive Appearance Of The Rare Pokemon.) In the movie, there will be three undiscovered Pokemon left to catch. Directed by Kunihiko Yuyama.

  • GTO, the Manga series in Shonen Mangazine, will be made into a Television series soon. Due to it's great sucsess as a TV drama which recently aired in Japan, this decision was made. The series will probably air around July in Japan.

  • Speed, a Japanese Pop group, will sing the theme song for the next Doraemon movie. Because Doraemon and Speed are both well know among younger generations in Japan, Speed was offered the job. The name of this episode of Doraemon is to be called "Nobita's Diary In Drifting The Universe."

  • Manga Entertainment, in a press release, announced the first anime release spawned from their new partnership with Ryko Distribution Partners. The title, which will which will be the first 36 episodes of the Fist of the North Star TV series, is considered by them to be a follow-up release to the highly popular Street Fighter II V series. The episodes will be released on 12 volumes (each with three episodes) in subtitled and dubbed format. Manga Entertainment is offering an all-expense-paid trip for two fans to Hollywood, who will then get to star in a voice over spot to be seen in the last volume. More info at www.manga.com.
     

    Columbia Pictures is in final negotiations with the estate of Osamu Tezuka to buy the live action motion picture rights to Tetsuwan Atomu, better known as "Astro Boy." Columbia plans to remake the story as a combination live action/animatronics/computer animated film, targetted for release Christmas 2000. The film is to be produced by Don Murphy, Jane Hamsher, and Jim Henson Pictures, and would likely have animatronics from Jim Henson's Creature Shop. Walt Disney Productions and producer Don Murphy is also in talks with a Japanese manga publisher to adapt Katsuhiro Otomo's classic manga "Domu".
     

    A new TV series based on the "I Wanna Use Magic (Mahou Tsukai Tai)" OAV's recently aquired by Right Stuf will making its way onto Japanese TV soon. Although no date is announced, it will probably start in Summer.
